 Polk County Resource Center provides the following services: Emergency financial assistance for rent, utilities, birth certificates, ID cards, and prescriptions; hygiene items, diapers, transportation passes, shower passes and gas cards; comprehensive information and referral; child care resources and referrals and education to providers and parents. Also offers seasonal programs including school supplies and holiday assistance.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR VETERAN FAMILIES
Provides a short-term housing intervention program for low-income veterans and their families experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

Eligibility:
Veterans and veteran families that are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness and have an income at or below 80% of Area Median Income with any discharge other than "Dishonorable." Veteran must be present in household to participate.

The Housing Assistance Program, or HAP, can provide a government grant for rental expenses or other housing costs. Money can also be used to pay a security deposit. Referrals are needed from other local non-profits.

Emergency, one time funds for paying back rent may be issued. This is low income families in Salem as well as the county, single parents, or senior citizens. Additional funds may be offered for energy bills.


The ARCHES Project

Offers various homeless prevention programs, including for veterans. Whether government grant money to help pay rent or utility bills, or funds to help pay for moving or security deposits, assistance is offered. They also help people find stable, affordable housing and address budgeting needs. Call for move-in assistance, first month’s rent or deposit help, loans and even free landlord-tenant mediations. Dial (503) 399-9080, and veterans can apply for housing grants from SSVF as well.

ARCHES homeless prevention and rehousing programs include many components. Some tenants may be given one-time rental help or loans for paying for security deposits or utilities. FARMWORKER HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Provides various types of housing assistance, depending on the program, including rental and utility assistance, emergency shelter, homelessness, eviction prevention, and other assistance to agricultural workers and their families.

Eligibility: Low-income agricultural workers who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, not having caused their own homelessness. Priority is given to low-income agricultural workers, but low-income nonagricultural workers may be eligible depending on the program. Legal immigration status is not required.
